You used to say:
The food here tastes different.
The salt is full of light from staying in the sun.
Whatever you eat smells of sea.
Mother, the sea seeped into your feelings through your mouth.

 

Background: my mother; a foreigner in the sea, yet sea-fish became her preferred food. The salt in Poland came from mines, not from the sea. A conversation, years later, between me and my mother.
